Meet the Doctors
T. Gordon Hand, MD
Dr.
Hand graduated from Dalhousie University, Canada, in 1966 and received
his medical degree from Dalhousie University in 1971. He completed one
year of internal medicine followed by his ophthalmology residency at the
University of Toronto in 1975. During his residency, he was awarded first
prize from the University of Toronto for ophthalmic research. Following
his residency, he was awarded a General Motors McLaughlin Fellowship for
training in corneal surgery and plastic reconstructive surgery, which
he completed in 1977 in England.
Since 1979, Dr. Hand has practiced in Concord. He is a Corneal and Plastic Ophthalmic Surgeon specializing in refractive surgery for nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, and also cosmetic surgery. He practices General Ophthalmology and introduced topical no-suture cataract surgery to the Concord area. He has been American Board-Certified since 1977.
Dr. Hand is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a member of the American Academy of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, New England Ophthalmological Society, New Hampshire Medical Society, and New Hampshire Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Hand is also on the staff of Concord Hospital. He was recently named a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International for his Ophthalmic missionary work.
Dr. Hand resides in New Castle with his wife Patty. He has four daughters.
Peter Wasserman, MD
Dr.
Wasserman is a Board-Certified Ophthalmologist who graduated from Dartmouth
College in 1978 and received his medical degree from the University of
Rochester in 1982. After a medical internship at Mount Auburn Hospital
in Cambridge, Massachusetts, he went on to his Ophthalmology residency
at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C., completing his training
in 1986.
At Concord Eye Care, Dr. Wasserman is a General Ophthalmologist who takes care of a wide variety of eye problems. He specializes in medical retinal eye disease with an emphasis on diabetic eye disease, laser surgery, glaucoma, and no-stitch cataract and implant surgery. Dr. Wasserman is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a former Councilor to the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. He is currently the Medical Director of Concord Eye Surgery, LLC and a member of the New Hampshire Medical Society. He is a past President of the New Hampshire Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons.
Dr Wasserman resides in Hopkinton with his wife Jenny and children Megan, Jason, and Katie.
Mark A. Szal, MD
Dr. Szal graduated from Amherst College, Massachusetts, and received his medical degree from the University of Rochester. After working as a research biologist at the National Institute of Health’s National Eye Institute, he completed a surgical internship at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. He then practiced General Medicine at a walk-in clinic in Maryland. He completed his Ophthalmology residency at Mount Sinai in Cleveland, Ohio.
Dr. Szal joined ORBIS, a charity organization, and taught Ophthalmology in developing nations for a year. Upon his return to the U.S., Dr. Szal worked as a Locum Tenens for a year and a half in Pittsburgh, PA; Anchorage, AK; Monroe, WI; Sault St. Marie, MI; Plymouth, NH; Wellsboro, PA; and Tuscaloosa, AL.
Dr. Szal is a Board-Certified General Ophthalmologist with a special interest in the medical and laser treatment of glaucoma, cataract, and diabetic eye diseases. He utilizes the most advanced scanning laser techniques to diagnose glaucoma and macular disease, and performs laser surgery and “no-stitch” cataract surgery.
He is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, the New England Ophthalmological Society, the New Hampshire Medical Society, and the New Hampshire Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons. He is on staff at Concord Hospital.
Dr. Szal resides in Bow with his wife Nathalie, and their two daughters.
Bradford S. Hall, MD
Dr.
Hall is a Concord native who graduated Summa cum Laude from Bowdoin College
in Brunswick, Maine and received his medical degree from Dartmouth Medical
School in Hanover, NH. He subsequently completed a one-year medical internship
at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, New York, followed by a three-year
Ophthalmology residency at the University of Michigan’s Kellogg Eye Center
in Ann Arbor.
Dr. Hall is a Board-Certified Comprehensive Ophthalmologist with a special interest in the medical and laser treatment of glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, and cataracts. He utilizes the most advanced laser systems available to diagnose and treat glaucoma, and performs cataract surgery with the modem "no-stitch" technique.
Dr. Hall is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the New Hampshire Medical Society, and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He is also on staff at Concord Hospital.
Dr. Hall resides in Hopkinton with his wife Kiersten and their daughters Emma and Grace.
Christie L. Morse, MD
Dr. Morse graduated from Yale University and received her medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina with a medical internship at the University of Massachusetts and a residency at Brown University, Rhode Island Hospital. Following her residency, she performed a Pediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus Fellowship at the Riley Children's Hospital of Indiana University.
Since moving to New Hampshire in 1991, she served as Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and as Assistant Professor of Surgery at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon until 2000.
She has been a member of the New Hampshire Sight and Hearing Foundation Physician's Advisory Committee, the New England Ophthalmological Society, the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, the International Strabistological Association, the NH Medical Society, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Medical Association, and the American Academy of Pediatrics. Dr. Morse is frequently asked to speak on pediatric ophthalmology issues throughout New England. She serves on the Board of Directors of the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, the Ethics Committee of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the Practicing Ophthalmology Advisory Committee on Education for the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Morse is the current president of the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus and Women in Ophthalmology. She received the Secretariat award and an honor award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology in 2006.
At Concord Eye Care, Dr. Morse practices Pediatric Ophthalmology as well as specializing in adult strabismus and diplopia patients.
Eliot D. Foley, MD
Dr.
Foley graduated from Harvard University in 1993. He spent 2 years doing
laboratory research at Children's Hospital in Boston on retinal angiogenesis,
and has co-authored several papers. He received his Medical Doctorate
at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1999.
After a year of medical internship at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City, NY, he completed his ophthalmology residency at Boston University in 2003. He co-authored a textbook titled Ophthalmic Office Procedures during his residency. He stayed on at Boston University and performed a fellowship in Vitreoretinal Diseases and Surgery, which he completed in 2005. Prior to joining Concord Eye Care and simultaneous with his retinal fellowship, he also was an Instructor in Ophthalmology at the Boston VA Medical Center.
He is a board certified ophthalmologist and a specialist in the medical and surgical treatment of a wide variety of retinal disorders, with a particular emphasis on diabetic related eye diseases, retinal detachments, and macular degeneration. He is currently a member of the NH Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is on staff at Concord Hospital.
He currently resides in Concord with his wife Ashlyn and their two children Tessa and Davis.
Maynard B. Wheeler, MD
Dr.
Wheeler graduated from Dartmouth College in 1961 and obtained his medical
degree from the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University
in New York City in 1966. After his internship he spent two years with
the US Public Health Service detailed to the Peace Corps in Peru, South
America. He completed a year of fellowship training in pediatric ophthalmology
at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia and the National Children's Hospital
Center in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Maynard Wheeler specializes in pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus.
Dr. Wheeler is an “Emeritus” Associate Professor of Surgery (Ophthalmology) and Pediatrics at the University of Connecticut. He was Director of Pediatric Ophthalmology at the Connecticut Children's Medical Center in Hartford for 25 years. Dr. Wheeler is past president of the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, the American Orthoptic Council, and the Joint Commission for Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology. He is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a fellow of both the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Dr. Wheeler resides in Grantham with his wife Sandy. They have two daughters and two grandchildren.
Jacqueline R. Lipsy, OD
Dr.
Lipsy received a Bachelors of Science degree in biology in 1992 from Emmanuel
College in Boston, Massachusetts. She received a Doctor of Optometry degree
from New England College of Optometry in Boston, Massachusetts in 1996.
Her training included internships at the VA Hospital in Portland, Oregon,
and Manchester, New Hampshire in 1996.
Dr. Lipsy practices Primary Care Optometry with a special interest in contact lens fitting including hard contacts, soft contacts, bifocal, and disposable contacts.
In addition, Dr. Lipsy has made volunteer trips to Chetumal, Mexico in 1995 and Merida, Mexico in 1996 to work with the local people providing optometric care. She is a member of the American Optometric Association and the New Hampshire Optometric Association.
Dr. Lipsy resides in Bow with her husband David and their son Aden.
Amy L. Michaud, OD
Dr.
Michaud received an Associate of Science degree in biology in 1992 from
Shawnee State University in Portsmouth, Ohio; she received a Doctor of
Optometry degree in Chicago, Illinois in 1996. Her training included an
internship at the Chicago Lighthouse for the Blind in 1996. Following
optometry school, Dr. Michaud practiced in her home state of Ohio for
several years before relocating to New Hampshire.
Dr. Michaud has a broad interest in all aspects of optometric care with a special focus on contact lens fitting, including soft and gas permeable lenses. She is a member of the American Optometric Association and the New Hampshire Optometric Association.
Dr. Michaud resides in Dunbarton with her husband J.P., who is also a practicing optometrist in the area, and their daughter Caroline.
Scott M. Krauchunas, OD, PhD
Dr.
Krauchunas received his Bachelor of Science degree in physiological psychology
in 1992 from Michigan State University. He then went on to Kent State
University to receive his doctorate’s degree in 1997 in Physiological
Psychology where he researched the effects that various neurotoxins had
on learning and memory.
Upon completion of his doctoral work, Dr. Krauchunas accepted a teaching position at Saint Anselm College in Manchester in the Psychology Department and moved to New Hampshire. He taught at Saint Anselm for six years specializing in physiological psychology, health psychology and research methods. He also had an active research program focusing on Sports Vision, specifically how baseball outfielders and dogs catch baseballs and Frisbees.
In 2003 Dr. Krauchunas resigned his position at Saint Anselm so that he could pursue a career in optometry. He graduated from the New England College of Optometry located in Boston, Massachusetts in 2005 and now practices primary care optometry specializing in fitting soft, gas permeable, and multifocal contact lenses. He is currently a member of the American Optometric Association as well as the New Hampshire Optometric Association.
Dr. Krauchunas resides in Barnstead with his wife Meredith and their son Mathias.
David A. Weinberg, MD, F.A.C.S.
David A. Weinberg, M.D., F.A.C.S. is an ophthalmologist with fellowship training in the subspecialties of oculofacial plastic surgery and neuro-ophthalmology. Dr. Weinberg’s practice encompasses all aspects of oculofacial plastic surgery, including eyelid, lacrimal (tear duct), orbital diseases and surgery. Cosmetic procedures offered include botulinum toxin (BOTOX®) and filler injections, blepharoplasty, and forehead and mid-face lifts.
After the completion of a six-year biomedical program at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Albany Medical College, Dr. Weinberg obtained his residency training in ophthalmology at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. This was followed by fellowships in neuro-ophthalmology at Michigan State University and Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia. Dr. Weinberg then completed a fellowship program in oculofacial plastic surgery at the Jules Stein Eye Institute of UCLA in Los Angeles, California. After finishing his training, Dr. Weinberg was chief of the ophthalmic plastic surgery and neuro-ophthalmology services and fellowship director at Fletcher Allen Health Care and the University of Vermont for ten years, prior to a recent two year associate professorship at the University of Utah.
Dr. David Weinberg is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and the North American Neuro-Ophthalmology Society. He has been President of the New England Oculoplastic Society since 1996.
